Leroy Brace

July 16, 1949 – October 29, 2024

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Leroy C Brace, 75, of Deer Lake, NL, on Tuesday, October 29th, 2024, after a short battle with cancer.

Leroy was born on July 16th, 1949, to Sim & Pearl (nee Harnum) Brace in Hampden and was one of 8 children.

Leaving to mourn with heartfelt memories are his wife: Verna (nee Gale); daughters: Tanya (Gord), Sonya (Dwayne); son: Matthew (Alicia); grandchildren: Hannah, Mason, Cassandra, Abigail and Nate; siblings: Max, Eva, Dulcie, Marion and Edna (Carl); Mother-in-law: Carrie Gale. He is also survived by many in-laws, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Pre-deceased by his parents: Simeon and Pearl Brace; father-in-law: Leslie Gale; brother: Allen; in-laws: Theresa, Eric, and Adriano; also nephews: Wade, Rob and Jeff.

Leroy moved to Labrador City in the mid-70s and began working with the Iron Ore Company of Canada, as a Terex truck driver and finished his career as a Red Seal crane operator. After retiring from IOCC, he continued to work as a crane operator across the province, going on to "retire" two more times.

Leroy was a man of many talents and interests. He was constantly making something and loved using his hands. He was a creative wood worker, artist and talented musician. He wasn't afraid to try new things. He joined the gun club, made his own guitars, obtained a brown belt in karate and pursued a pilot's license.

He was always available to help with any construction job that had to be done and had his hand in helping his children with all kinds of renovations.

Leroy loved muscle cars. He enjoyed restoring vehicles from the chassis up. He constructed his 1955 Buick, restored a '69 GTO and an '85 Firebird. He enjoyed getting together with his "car buddies" and attending car shows. He took great joy in being able to occasionally bring his own cars.

Leroy had a great sense of humour and was always ready for a laugh and a good story.

It is his faith that gives us our greatest comfort, knowing that he is going home. Days without him will be hard but his humour, creativity and unforgettable spirit will live on in the hearts of his family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
