So saddened to learn of Leroy's passing. I met Leroy by chance. I am from Nova Scotia. While visiting Deer Lake in my 69 GTO, I stopped by the local parts store. When the people at the parts store saw my car, they called Leroy. He was in the middle of restoring his own GTO. Minutes later, he was standing beside me, picking my brain about the car. That was the beginning of our bromance. Leroy invited me up to his place, and I saw all of the work he was doing to his GTO. It was about half together, half apart. He took a series of measurements and templates from my car, and during my next visit to Deer Lake a year later, he had the car nearly complete, and...he has fabricated most of his own parts to boot. I saw Leroy last summer and he showed me the Trans Am he had done for his son. I had no idea he was ill. My condolences to his family. You have lost a gem of a man, and so young too. For Leroy: Godspeed on your next journey...I knew you painted that GTO heavenly blue for a reason...

I was a young teenager when I met Leroy. He never made me feel young or insignificant but treated me like a friend. I admired him for his attributes and there were many! As I grew up, I saw many of Leroys works of art! The way he could make pieces of wood look like they should be on display, the way he could diagnose a car problem with such ease. I remember how he could move like a cool breeze and stake like a hammer in karate. I remember how much he loved his family!
I will never forget the great Florida trip we had with the Brace family. Leroy being the acomplished shooter always had ammo ready for his next range day. However when we arrived in Florida he discovered that he had some pistol ammo in his shaving kit. How it actually made it to the state is not a question anyone asked at the time, but he knew that we couldn't bring it back. I was one of the accomplices who tried to help get rid of that ammo. I will never forget the look on his face that day when we boarded the plane back home without the ammo. One of my funny memories with Leroy.
I would like to say to the Brace family, I feel so fortunate to have known Leroy for as long as I did. He is a man that I wish I could live up to and will never forget.

Verna, Tanya, Sonya , Matthew and extended families
Been thinking about you all the past days and now especially today know it’s going to be a tough one .
We all have such precious memories of our families together, each of boys enjoyed chatting with Leroy and was saddened to know of his passing.
Stay strong and knowing he’s with Jesus is bittersweet as he endured such pain in last days. .. life don’t seem fair yet we never know why things happen on this earth.
Treasure his love, stay strong and remember all the good things he has taught you, and his unfailing love for his family.. not every family has such great husband and father .

Verna and extended family ,
So sorry to hear about Leroy’s passing . I have so many wonderful memories of working alongside him at IOCC , and his helping hand , when I needed a repair on my guitar , or just to meet him uptown, and have a chat . Q: Describe where Leroy worked and what they did
A: I am truely saddened to see Leroys passing and although i only had the pleasure to work with Leroy for a couple of his last years at IOC in field maintenance. Although he hasn't worked there in a long time now & I also no longer work there he will always be remembered as one of the good ones.
Leroy was a crane operator, a boom truck operator, and when he had to, a lube van operator. He was not just an operator but a man who took pride in his equipment and the work he was involved with. As I was new to the industry as a young team leader he would always take the time go through any lift with me so i understood how they worked and what their limits would be. He would help me with lift plans and always had his book with various weights of machines or parts in his pocket to refer to with any questions i ever had. He would work extra shifts not because he had to but when we were in need where he would never see us stuck , sometimes working weeks on end. I can honestly say I never worried when he was on the sticks, he made the tough jobs look easy and his crew had the utmost respect & trust in his abilities.
As a man he was generally quiet but always good for a chat. He would often welcome me in their lube ramp break area to have a coffee and a chat during many break times. During these times he would make this young supervisor feel like a co-worker opposed to the feeling of staff & hourly generally associated with the IOC work environment. We would talk about many of his hobbies from building cars, guitars, wood working and was often found with a pocket knife making something amazing, like a wooden muti link wood chain, or a ball inside a cube from a single piece of wood.
His talents had no end, he powder coated hardware in his garage for my bike builds, he showed me the cars he had restored and projects he was working on & oddly enough we had a connection before i even met him as i found out during one of those old talks that he actually put the siding on my old house on Willow before I bought it from Don Best.
I know this is a sad time but I will always remember him with his smile and top notch abilities at whatever he was doing.
I'm sure Leroy and Eldon (Letto) are in the big lube ramp in the sky having a game of cards, or a coffee, a chat, and a laugh. Rest in peace old friend and thank you for everything you did me, our crew, and I'm sure the many others you crossed paths with over the years.
