It is with great sadness that the family of the late Dorothy Strickland announce her passing on Monday, August 11th, 2008 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 90 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her two daughters: Jean (Ivor) Wheeler and Marina Sheppard, Frenchman’s Cove; brother: Tertious Piercey, Corner Brook; six grandchildren: Jackie Wheeler, Frenchman’s Cove, Sharon Hillyer (Doug), Bomanville, ON, Danny Wheeler (Patsy), Frenchman’s Cove, Joanne Wheeler, Corner Brook, Michelle Vaters (Pat), Frenchman’s Cove, Gerry Wheeler (Amanda), Oshawa, ON; six great grandchildren: Brett and Luke Hillyer, Jeremy and Danielle Wheeler, Colby Vaters, Brady Wheeler; three sisters-in-law: Dorothy Piercey, Phoebe MacDonald and Laura Park; brother-in-law: Alex Stickland; as well as a large circle of neices, nephews, other relatives and friends. Predeceased by her parents, Richard and Harriett Piercey; husband: Silas Strickland; son-in-law: Gerald Sheppard; brothers: Wilson, Montford and Richard Piercey; sisters: Emily Hogan and Olive French. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Tuesday evening, 7-9:00 p.m. and Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 14th at 2:00 p.m. from St. Ambrose Anglican Church, John’s Beach. Bishop Leonard Whitten officiating. Interment to follow at the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit or to St. Ambrose Anglican Church Memorial Fund.
