Obituary of Gladys Trimm

Gladys Normore Trimm

June 12, 1943 – December 14, 2014

It is with immense sadness and deepest sorrow that the family of the late Gladys Trimm of Forteau announces the passing on December 14, 2014, at Labrador South Health Centre, Forteau, Labrador at the age of 71.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children:  Gaius {Doreen}, Bonnie {Cecil}, Lois {Gerard}, Dwayne {Kinza}; grandchildren:  Christopher {Shelagh}, Traci {Mark}, Heather, Mika, Matthew, Mark, Alexis, and Zachary

Brother:  John {Bertha}

Sisters:  Mary; Dorothy; Dora

Family and friends including close friends Francis & Dot Barney; Levi & Brenda Snook; Joseph & Heather Wissler; Vivian Normore & Joyce Hillyard

She was predeceased by her parents John and Ellen Normore.  Husband Algermon.

Gladys, mom, was the youngest of 14 children. She had very special bond with her mom and spoke every highly of her.  Mom seem to gain her father’s favor as the baby in the family, maybe our brother Dwayne would totally understand this too.   She spent her early years working with the Grenfell Mission in Flower’s Cove, NL as a personal care attendant and her favorite duties were helping to deliver babies and to take care of them.  She was a natural at nursing and caring for others.  Her keen observation skills made her exceptional at taking care of intricate details required for caring for the needs of others.  I am certain every task was carried out with a smile on her face and a song in her heart making it seem effortless.  Helping and nurturing people was woven in the tapestry of our mom.  It was who she was – it penetrated her most inner being.  She worked there until one day this handsome young man from English Point was traveling through and it was then she met the love of her life “our awesome dad”.  He knew good help when he saw it.  Little did he realize how he would need that very skill set and little did she realize how she would have to utilize the skills she learned in those early days.

Our mom enjoyed, cooking and baking and kept an orderly home.  The door to our home was always open to family, friends and strangers  “alike”.  You could call our home the “hub” of English Point for countless sing alongs and a place where many meals were served.  I still have memories of trying to place those “cut-glass squares” just right on the three-tiered silver cookie stand along with many other fancy cookies to serve.

In May 1980, our father suffered a life-altering accident. She’s now dealing with her partner; the love of her life has a quadriplegia. This changed his life, and her life and the life of our family forever.  She weathered the storm and never faltered, although the storms would rage at times while adapting to her way of life.

She was selfless, strong, determined, loving, dedicated, caring, giving and constant in the midst of a storm.  She was a source of inspiration to more than she will ever know.

You were a shining gem to each of us.  You cast a gift into our hearts that would be giving as the angels give.  We appreciate the love you have shown to each of us, your devotion to your God and determination to keep our family together, and the way you have care for our dad all of those years.  You were a true woman of heart: a woman with great faith and a wonderful role model to many.  We love you mom and miss you more than you will ever know.

Strength and honor are her clothing: and she shall rejoice in time to come.  She openth her mouth with wisdom; and her tongue is the law of kindness.  She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not  the bread of idleness.  Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.  Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman that feareth her Lord, she shall be praised.   Proverbs 31: 25-30

OUR GRANDMOTHER HAD A BIG HEART

We had her heart right from the start, when she held us with pride and joy.  We were the same in her hall of fame, no special girl or boy.  Nan looked at us as a special gift, filled with beauty, grace and love.

So thank you Nan for the little things you taught us while you were here.  Thank you for loving parents, pearls of wisdom, rocking us to sleep, the kisses, tying up our shoes, praying for us, the many phone calls, washing our faces and yes for even combing our hair.
 

But Nan there’s another side to your life, that taught us an awful lot. The side that only God really understands, how you lovingly care for our Pop. It sure hurt when we saw what you and Pop went through.  We saw the effect it had on our parents, as they stood by you.  Thanks, Nan, for pushing Pop in the old wheelchair.  For washing his body, moving his legs, turning him over, feeding him and yes – even combing his hair.

We have learned many lessons and truths that will never be displaced.  Lessons from your amazing love and God’s amazing grace.  But now you have gone to be with Pop, no more pushing the old wheelchair, no more sorrow, no more death, and no more pain and no more care.

But what a grandmother you have been.  What a battle right to the end.  The God you trust has been your guide, and now you are safe by his loving side.  So now Nan-you will be an angel of light.  From all your grandchildren “We love you – Good night” xoxoxo\
