MONA JOAN PIERCEY

IRISHTOWN, NL

1938 -2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Mona Joan Piercey nee: (Parsons) on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at the age of 80. She passed peacefully away surrounded by her family in the Palliative Care Unit in Western Memorial Regional Hospital, after a courageous 3 ½ year battle with cancer. Predeceased by her husband Gordon, April, 1994. Leaving behind with loving memories are her four daughters,  Angela Piercey (Steve Atkinson), Lisa Blanchard (Todd), Ruby Brake (Brian), Mary Murrin (Rick), her furry and loyal friend Bailey,  six precious grandchildren, Caitlin Piercey (Dylan Poole), Robin Blanchard (Justin Lewis), Christopher Blanchard, Scott Brake (Candace Kendall), Steven Brake, Devon Murrin, two great grandchildren Candace and Jackson, sister,  Evelyn (Ettie) Stratton, Curling, sister-in-law Doris Parsons, Summerside, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Her cabin buddies Shirley and George Nichols. Predeceased by her parents Samuel and Julia Parsons, brothers, sisters and in-laws: Richard Parsons (Gwennie), Gilbert Parsons, Cyril Parsons, Verdie Harris (Ches), Jane Parsons, Dorothy Christopher (Raymond), Doreen Anderson (Reg), Jim Piercey, Marie Piercey. Mom was a very strong and courageous lady, nothing was ever to much for her to take on and complete. She approached her cancer diagnosis with the same tenacity, touching the hearts and raising the spirits of friends at the chemo unit, continuing to live as if nothing was wrong.  Her cabin & her friends at Bonne Bay Pond were her weekend refuge, she loved the time she spent there. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be sorely missed. In keeping with her wish’s cremation has taken place. We would like to say thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and staff of 3B, 4A, Chemo Unit and Palliative Care. Memorial Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Fillatre’s Funeral Home 4 St. Marks. The funeral service will be held Monday, October 29th at 10:00 am from Fillatre’s Funeral Home Chapel,  with Father Ed Terry officiating, followed by the interment at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers or Memorial Donations may be made to the Chemo Unit or The Palliative Care Unit of Western Memorial Regional Hospital.

Forever in our hearts.
