ELSIE MAY
ANTHONY (PENNELL)
1915-2007
After a brief illness, Elsie ANTHONY passed away peacefully on the 15th of March 2007 in Nanaimo British Columbia. Born on Woods Island, Bay of Islands, 9 June 1915 to John Pennell and Mary Ellen Barnes and married to John Anthony in 1937. She embarked on many moves throughout his career with the Newfoundland Government. Predeceased by her parents, brother Les Pennell, and husband John. Survived and sadly missed by her only daughter Linda, husband Ron Blank, granddaughter Deborah, great-granddaughter Kalia, in Nanaimo, and special family and friends in Newfoundland. Elsie, also known as Mary, moved to Nanaimo in 2002. Her constant companion Sam Shih-tsu will sorely miss her treats and company. She kept busy: sometime babysitter for Kalia, knitted 200 caps for newborns and blankets for the Nanaimo Hospital and an avid reader. Although Elsie enjoyed the weather in Nanaimo, her heart will always be in Newfoundland. She eagerly awaited her Western Star. Elsie appreciated the frequent updates from Lavinia & Emmaline. A special good-bye to childhood friend Angeline. No flowers, please. Donations appreciated to the O'Connell Centre, DVA Unit. Remembrance held in Nanaimo. Later arrangements announced before internment with her beloved John in Mount Patricia Cemetery.
