Passed peacefully away on Friday, November 3rd, 2006, Paula McCarthy at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 84 years. Paula was born in Belgium where she lived with her parents and her 8 brothers and sisters until she met her husband Tony, the love of her life during WWII, who was stationed in Belgium with the Canadian Army. They lived in Belgium for a short period of time before moving to Newfoundland where they raised their family. Paula leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: John (Patricia), Benoit’s Cove, Debbie (Bruce) Evans, Corner Brook, her devoted daughter with whom she resided for the past 2 years, Tony (Pam), Mt. Moriah. Grandchildren: Johnny (Elaine), Brian (Angele), Judith (Craig), Lori (Darryl), Adam, Matthew, Deborah-Lee (Kevin) and Tony. Great-grandchildren: Nate, Samantha, Alyssa, Brittany and Brandon. Brothers-in-law: Norbert (Dale) McCarthy, Corner Brook and Ken Brinston, Labrador City. Sisters-in-law: Philomena Butt, Mt. Moriah, Eileen Campbell, Corner Brook, Loretta McCarthy, Corner Brook and Louise McCarthy, Corner Brook. As well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends in both Canada and Belgium. She was predeceased by her husband Anthony “Tony”, daughter Judy, parents Leonard and Marie Callaerts. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Saturday and Sunday from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 6th at 10:30 AM from the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer with Father Edwin Gale officiating. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Townsite. As expressions of sympathy flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
