Leaving to mourn her children: Carol (William Pollett), Bradley (Victoria Warford), Lynn (Rodney Andrews); grandson Noah Andrews; sisters: Shirley (Millie) Hiscock and Marjorie Legge; brothers: Bill, George and Gary, many nieces, nephews, friends and devoted neighbour and caregiver Sylvia Hulan. In addition to her parents, Bernice was predeceased by husband Albert, infant son Dwight, and treasured grandparents Hannah and George Green of Winterton who undertook the care of young Bernice & Shirley after the untimely death of their mother. At the age of 16, Bernice bravely left her home in Winterton, Trinity Bay, striking out for central and then western Newfoundland, finally settling in Corner Brook where she first worked for Ernie Kaplow at his store on Broadway. In January 1947 she married Albert Greene and they raised their family on North Street where they provided a loving and encouraging home. Her children cherish the memory of being warmly welcomed home from school each day by their mother’s smile and the smell of fresh bread baked in her kitchen. In recent years she lived in McKay’s where the rural life suited her well and she enjoyed the kindness and hospitality of many friends and neighbours. Wherever she was, Bernice was a devoted member of the Anglican Church and a committed gardener who enjoyed long walks and cross-country skiing, usually with her dog. She will be remembered as a loyal friend and a proud and loving mother and grandmother. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Bernice and her life example of kindness to others at Fillatre’s Funeral Home on St. Mark’s Avenue in Corner Brook on Saturday, November 4th from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 5th at The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Main Street, Corner Brook, The Very Rev. Baxter Park officiating, with interment to follow at Townsite Cemetery. Flowers greatly appreciated or donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Maintenance Fund or a charity of one's choice.
