It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Rev. Frank Pye annouce his passing on September 1, 2017 in his home in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, at the age of 79.

Frank lived life to the fullest, giving abundant love to his family and friends, passionate about his faith and his farming, and often giving of himself to his congregation and his community.

He leaves to mourn his cherished wife and partner in all things for 57 years, Carole Joyce (Benson), his only son Stephen John (Catherine) and his two daughters Catherine Anne (Michael) and Karen Sue (Junior); seven treasured grandchildren Heather (Chris), Hollie (Murray), Stephanie (Mike), Matthew (Marissa), Samantha (Nathan), Caitlin, Ben (Courtney) and five delightful great grandchildren, Eric, Ava, Teagan, Liam and Makayla; sister Winnifred and brother Marshall, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, brothers and sister-in-law, and other relatives and friends.

Predeceased by his parents, Hayward and Frances Pye, and elder brother John.

Frank was born and educated at Mount Moriah, Newfoundland. At age 16 he began teaching in a one room all grade school in Pynn’s Brook. He received his BA in Education from Memorial University in 1962 and graduated from Pine Hill Divinity Hall in 1965. He was ordained in the United Church of Canada in the same year. He served the church in Random Island, Port Blandford and Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and Red Bay Pastoral Charges. He worked with the College of the North Atlantic as Director of Extension Services, served on the Federation of Agriculture for 10 years and was a long standing Secretary of the Lake Melville Agricultural Association as well as Treasurer of the Lake Melville Ministerial Association for 17 years. Frank was known as a man with an adventurous soul, enjoying with zest his downhill skiing, motorcycling, flying and boating.

Frank’s family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to everyone who reached out to us with their help and support over the past 16 months, as he struggled with illness. Your kindness and compassion strengthened Frank’s firm belief that God’s love is here with us every day. He spoke often of all the " Angels of Mercy" who were caring for him. Special thanks as well to Dr. Woollam and all the staff at the hospital for their dedicated care. As expressions of sympathy, flowers gratefully accepted, or a simple donation in Frank’s memory may be made to the Happy Valley-Goose Bay United Church for outreach to the community.
