At the age of 75, Harold Melbourne, of Channel-Port aux Basques, died peacefully surrounded by his family in the Long Term Care Unit, of Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre on Nov. 29, 2015. Born in Grand Bruit he was the son of the late Emmanuel and Ivy Melbourne. He was an exceptional hunter, and anyone who knew him, knew his love for his dog, Dan. He was a hard worker all his life. He was a teacher at an early age and taught in Petites and Bay North and after that served in the Army. His love of Newfoundland brought him back to Grand Bruit, where he raised his family and working with NL Hydro. There he hunted and fished and had a garden. He had a vegetable garden as well as planted trees, bushes and had the most beautiful flower garden. He had such a green thumb and knew it that he would say, "I could plant a rock and a flower would grow."

Once Hope Brook Gold Mine took over NL Hydro, he transitioned to the mine, and from there moved to Channel-Port aux Basques. When the mine closed he went to college in Stephenville and got his chef diploma and he and wife went to Labrador as a cook and later guiding until retiring.

Like his brother Murley, he was a great storyteller and his granddaughters, (Felicia and Holly) were his pride and joy.

He is predeceased by brothers: Les, Rodney, Charlie, Murley and Claude; sisters, Mildred, Ann and Rita.
