<p>ALTEEN, Nora - Passed away peacefully in St. John’s, Newfoundland, on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at the wonderful age of 102, Nora Alteen (nee Tuma), an extremely caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Leaving with fond memories her daughters Rose (Stan Hobbs), Louise Robinson, Judi Neville and Joan (Jim Vavasour); sons Nick (Eydie) and Tom (Caroline); 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren as well as other relatives and many friends. Nora was born on Bell Island, the daughter of Lebanese immigrants, Simon and Rose (nee Basha) Tuma, whose entrepreneurial skills and work ethic augmented the small business communities in Carbonear, Bell Island, and Corner Brook. Nora was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas Alteen, who together founded National Shoe Stores Limited in Corner Brook. Nora Alteen was a kind and caring woman who was a source of inspiration for her family and many friends. Cremation has taken place. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Thursday from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Teresa’s Church.
