Jack was born November 26, 1923 in King's Point, NL to Oreillia (King) and Thomas Matthews. Left to cherish a long life of happy memories are his sons: Max (Rita Pretzlaff), Whitecourt, AB; Derrick (Caroline, nee Duffy), Fort McMurray, AB; daughters: Maureen (Paul) Wells, Corner Brook; June (Edward) Wilkinson, Edmonton, AB; Jacqueline (Douglas) Allan, Victoria, BC; grandchildren: Laura Byrne Kreusal, Andrew, Shannon & Richard Wells;  Cheryl, Jason & Matthew Wilkinson; Joshua & Karli Matthews; Jessica & Jonathon Allan; great grandson, Jackson; sister Jean Toms, Springdale, NL; step-brother, Bill Pond, London, ON; step-sister, Olga Pond, Edmonton, AB; special friend, Edna Hookey, Mountain view Estates, as well as many other  family members and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife and  mother of his children, Mae(Phillips) and his second wife, Vera (Willis- Legge); brothers Max, Ralph; step-brother, Edward (Ted) Pond; sisters, Dorothy, Rita, Nellie and step-sister Blanche.As expressions of sympathy, donations are gratefully accepted to the War Amps Fund, or the charity of one's choice. </span><span style="font-family: Calibri;">A celebration of our father's life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Fillatre's Funeral Home Chapel on St. Mark's Ave, with Rev. Harry Whitehorne officiating.  Following internment at Mount Patricia Cemetery, please join us for a reception at First United Church Hall, Park Street where we would welcome the opportunity to share and hear of memories and stories of our dad.
