<p>Dick; William Donald Matthews, who was born on July 19, 1937 to Clara (Gillingham) and John Matthews in Goose Arm has earned his angel wings and passed at the age of 76 on November 12, 2013 at Long Term Care, Stephenville Crossing. He will be remembered as being a quiet, passive, skilled woodsman, loving husband, father, father-in-law, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved life, loved his hunting and fishing adventures in the woods with his sons and brothers and loved sharing stories. His endless care for his Special Olympian daughter Cynthia was unfathomable. Left to mourn are his wife Eliza (Payne) Matthews of 58 years, his children: son and buddy: Jason (Michelle) Matthews of Meadows; daughters: Sonia (Jim) Carew of Curling, Cynthia Matthews of Piccadilly, and Jocelyn (James) Vey of Mount Pearl; his grandchildren: Jennifer Brake (Gerald), Blair Matthews, Jacqueline Trecartin, Kelly (Danny) Piercey, Sueann Carew and David Burke, Jimmy Carew, Shauna Simon, Lawrence Rose, Brittany and Ryan Matthews, Alicia and Tyler Vey; great-grandchildren: Hailey, Nathan, Hunter and Curtis Carew, Megan and Morgan Simon, Sydney Brake and Olivia. He also leaves to mourn his siblings: Douglas (Florence) Gillingham, John (Ren) and Eileen Matthews, Walter (Rock) and Vera Matthews, Katie (Mac Haines) and Elizabeth (Augustus) Young; brother-in-law Leonard Payne and sister-in-law Lillian Payne and countless nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents John and Clara Matthews, daughter Sheila Laing (2006), son Larry Matthews (2011) and brothers and sisters. Friends may visit Fillatre&rsquo;s Funeral Home, Stephenville Crossing on Thursday 2-4 &amp; 7-9 p.m. and Friday 10-12 noon. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 15 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Augustine&rsquo;s Anglican Church in Stephenville with Rev. Kris Gosse officiating. Interment to follow at Hillside Interfaith Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Cerebral Palsy Association.
