Myra is survived by her son David (Maggie), Corner Brook; daughter Barbara Curry (David Morris), Pictou, NS; as well as several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents George H. and Ethel (Richards) Mercer; her husband, F. Austin Purchase in 1987; her brother Purdy Mercer; her stepmother Annie (Petten) Mercer.  Born in Bay Roberts in 1918, Myra attended Memorial University Teacher’s College, and taught school in Buchans before accepting a position in Humbermouth where she met her future husband, Austin Purchase. While Austin was overseas during WWII, Myra moved to Montreal and worked at the Bank of Montreal until their return to Corner Brook after the war to build their home and raise their children. Myra was active in the Church of St. John The Evangelist, and was Secretary/Treasurer of the Church for many years. In addition, she owned and managed City Shoe Repair, and was one of the first Wagon Wheel hostesses in Corner Brook. She was never happier than when helping others, and was a dear friend to many. Those who knew Myra will remember her devotion to her faith, her wry sense of humour, her tremendous zest for life, and her sweet kindness. She enjoyed many summers at the family cottage on Deer Lake, and after Austin’s passing, spent her winters in St. Pete Beach, FL. Myra spent her final years at the Corner Brook Interfaith Home and the Corner Brook Long Term Care Home, and special thanks must go to Dr. Obeid and the wonderful staff and volunteers on 4 North who looked after her with such great care, especially in her final days. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A service to celebrate Myra’s life will be held at The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Main Street on Friday, July 26 at 2:00 p.m.  with The Very Reverend Baxter D. Park and Archbishop Stewart Payne officiating. Interment to follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist  Operations Fund, 25 Main Street, Corner Brook, NL A2H 1C2 or to the charity of one’s choice.
