Passed peacefully away on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Palliative Care Unit of Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook, Melvin Lewis Smith at the age of 83. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 61 years Sylvia (Mercer); son Richard (Marie); granddaughter Claire (Ben) Noall; great granddaughters Sylvie and Caitlin; his sisters Janet (Peter) Hallett and Marie Smith; his brothers-in-law Richard (Doris) Mercer, Carl (Jean) Mercer; special nephews Stephen (Barbra) Mercer and Jeff (Yana) Smith and families, as well many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by parents Ernest and Bessie Smith; siblings Fred, Evelyn, Beryl and Mavis. Melvin was a Past Master of West Gate Masonic Lodge in Corner Brook and an active member for fifty-one years. Visitation will be held at Fillatre's Funeral Home 4 St. Marks Avenue, Corner Brook on Sunday, May 19th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held from Fillatre's Chapel on Monday, May 20th at 2:00 p.m. Dean Baxter Park officiating followed by the interment at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Palliative Care unit of Western Memorial Hospital.
