Passed away on Monday, July 30th, 2012 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, after a courageous fight with cancer, Earl Calvin Penney at the age of 80 years. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Irene (nee Oram); daughter: Lori of Halifax (Paul McKinnon), son: Glen of St. John’s (Ann Marie O’Keefe); daughter-in-law: Beverley Penney (Butch Vardy); his cherished grandchildren: Sarah Penney, Daniel Penney and Kate Penney of St. John’s; three sisters: Belle Vardy, Clarenville, Vinie Stanley (Eric), Clarenville and Rowena Humphries, Gambo; sisters-in-law: Betty Penney, Clarenville and Louie Phillips, Burgoyne’s Cove; brothers and sisters-in-law: Henry and Nellie Oram, Glovertown, Bill and Shirley Oram, Deer Lake, Jane Oram, Alfreda Fifield, Jane Eastman Oram and Alice Oram, Glovertown; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dora ; son: Calvin; baby daughter: Heather; parents: Jacob and Maude Penney; brothers: Wandsworth and Willis; sister: Elizabeth Pritchett; brothers-in-law: Alex Vardy, Michael Pritchett and Russell Humphries. Earl was a “Family Man”; a devoted father, husband and grandfather. He had a big heart and will always be remembered for doing for others, before himself. He will be missed more than words can say. Friends and family may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue on Tuesday evening, 7-9:00 p.m. and Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 2nd at 2:00 p.m. from All Saints Anglican Church, Clarence Street with Bishop Leonard Whitten and Reverend Tanya White officiating. The interment will follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation or to the War Amps of Canada.
