It is with great sadness that the family of the late William Joseph Vaters announce his passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit on Tuesday, January 10th, 2012 at the age of 75 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Lillian; children: Rita (Eric), Sylvia (Doug), Patsy, William (Wendy), Philomena (Tony), Patrick (Michelle), Roseanne (Terrance), Kirk (Jennifer), Christopher (Crystal) and Neil (Alison); 20 grandchildren: Neil, Megan, Nicholas, Clifford, Marlena, Stephen, Kayla, Lacey, Joshua, Ashley, Krista, Mark, Lorna, Colby, Ryan, Travis, Carson, Richard, Jessica and Christian; 18 great-grandchildren: Abigail, Logan, Ethan, Tristan, Marcus, Matthew, Madison, Summer, Austin, Meika, Brandi, Kylee, Taylor, Chloe, Caden, Teara, T.J. and Chase; brother Steven Vaters (Shirley), step-brother Richard Vaters, step-sister Mercedes Sheppard (Clarence), sisters-in-law Joanne Vaters, Madonna Hooper, Mary Wall (Bob), Christina McCarthy (Robert), Karen Boland and Mary Ellen Shallow (Gus); brothers-in-law: Philip Boland (Margaret) and Kevin (Julie) Boland; special nephew Enos Vaters (Philomena) who spent numerous hours throughout the years of his illness with his uncle; home care workers: Krista Batt, Alison Vaters and Jennifer Wheeler; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by parents Trifena and Will John Vaters; granddaughter Trifena Vaters; brothers: Patrick Vaters and James Vaters; sisters: Patricia Pennell and Rose Barnes; mother-in-law Rita Boland; father-in-law William Boland; brothers-in-law: Patrick Boland and Sydney Boland. The family would like to thank Dr. Young and Staff, Palliative Care Doctors and Staff, Nicole Lafosse, Community Health Care Nurse and family and friends that helped durning Joseph’s illness. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Tuesday from the hours of 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place at Our Lady Star of the Sea RC Parish in Benoit’s Cove on Thursday, January 12th at 10:30 a.m. with Father Edmund Camacho officiating. Interment will follow at the RC Cemetery, Benoit’s Cove. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish.
