Obituary of Allen Gordon Andrews
Allen Gordon Andrews
1933-2025
It is with profound sadness that the Andrews family announce the passing of Allen Gordon Andrews on January 4, 2025, at Maple Park Lodge Long Term Care facility in Fort Erie, Ontario, at the age of 91. Allen was born on August 19, 1933, to Kenneth and Lucy Andrews on Horse Islands, off the coast of Newfoundland. He was one of many siblings.
Allen was predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Pearl Mary Andrews; his son, Corey Andrews; and his siblings, Blanche, Pearl, Cavell, Maud, Ruby, Daisy, Nelson, and Everett. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his daughter Linda (Tony) Rerrie, son Larry (Judy) Andrews, and his brother Lawrence (Shirley) Andrews. He is also mourned by his grandchildren Amy (Marshall) Moore, Rebecca Feltmate, and Daniel (Amanda) Fraser, as well as his large circle of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Allen's early years on Horse Islands were marked by his help to his father as a fisherman, supporting the large family. His love for the sea took him to Newfoundland’s Northern Peninsula, where he met and married Pearl. Together, they settled in the area and started their family. In search of a better life, Allen moved his family to Howley, NL, where he worked in the forest industry. He worked as a lumberjack (tree faller) before transitioning to logging on the boom boats. Always striving to provide for his loved ones, Allen relocated his family to Deer Lake, NL, where he spent several years working in the outdoors before retiring.
Even in his retirement, Allen continued to enjoy nature, often visiting the local bogs to pick bake apples and engage in other outdoor activities. His greatest joy, however, came from traveling with his children—whether on Caribbean cruises, trips to Florida, or visits to Ontario and Alberta. He enjoyed these times with his loved ones to the fullest.
A deeply religious man, Allen was a devoted member of the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church in Deer Lake and was a faithful and effective member of the men's prayer group until his declining health made it difficult for him to attend. Despite living in Ontario in his later years, his love for Newfoundland remained unwavering, and he made it clear that he wished to be laid to rest in his beloved homeland, beside his wife.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Pastor White and the congregation for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Allen's memory be made to the S.P.C.A or Alzheimer Society.
Allen’s life was one of deep devotion to family, hard work, and unwavering faith. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy lives on in the love he shared and the memories he created.
A funeral service officiated by Pastor White, will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 10 Clinic Drive, Deer Lake, followed by an interment at the Deer Lake Interdenominational Cemetery.
