Obituary of James Arthur Coleman

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

In the early hours on the snow covered morning of December 22, 2024, James Arthur Coleman took his last breath and passed peacefully from God's earthly world. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Paulette, and two sons, Patrick and Gerald

Reaching 70 years of age, Jim lived a passionate and fulfilling life. Friends, family and strangers alike will remember a kind and warm man whose genuine heart brought people together with natural storytelling and humorous jokes.

After completing school at Regina High, Jim followed his Father and Grandfather into the family business, embarking upon what would turn out to be a wonderful 45-year career at the Coleman Group of Companies. He took pride in being a leader and supporting others, whether helping customers, mentoring countless staff, or as a director on the board for Mega Group Inc. for eight years. Jim's life work was tirelessly and loyally dedicated to his family and the business. Steadfast by his side for each step of the way was his wife Paulette for 48 years.

Outside of work and family, Jim's soul sang with the joy of music. A talented drummer, conga player and singer, many in Corner Brook will fondly remember listening and dancing to his bands Zeke and Crosstown Traffic over the years.

Jim's life was never without excitement and adventures. He was a car enthusiast, owning several sports cars. For two summers as a teenager, he and his brother remained undefeated at the outlaw quarter-mile track in their parents 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner. In his 20s, Jim earned his diver's license and participated in historic Newfoundland shipwreck dives, emergency search-and-rescue operations, and the recovery of the second astrolabe off Port Aux Basque. The friends he made in the local diving club remained some of the closest for the rest of his life.

Jim's greatest passion however always remained his family. He cherished his childhood memories with his mother's family in Conception Harbour. As an adult, Jim’s family enjoyed summer days at their cabin on George’s Lake, gathering with extended family and friends.

Jim's family would like to recognize the support of countless close family, friends and the exceptional doctors and nurses who supported him through his journey. Jim was predeceased by his Father, Gerald and Mother, Mercedes and his sister Maureen Kowalchuk. Leaving to mourn are his wife Paulette, two sons, Gerald and Patrick (Dannelle), his sister Joanne (Kelly Hogan), brother Michael (Dorothy), brothers in-law Bruce (Marie) Mitchell, Byron (Gloria) Mitchell, Hal (Donna) Mitchell and many nephews and nieces. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 28th at 2:00 PM from The Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, Mount Bernard Avenue, with Father Edward Terry officiating. Burial will follow at Montgomery Cemetery. All are welcomed to attend. A celebration of life will be held in Spring 2025, with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund will be set up in James memory in the future where donations can be made.
