George Roland Marvin Wheeler
February 27, 1949 - December 11, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family of the late George Wheeler announce his passing on December 11, 2024 surrounded by his family at the Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brook at the age of 75 years.
George leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife of 30 years, Mary; daughter: Karen (Crystal); step-children: Matthew (Karen), Suzanne (Quinton); special grandchildren: Kaitlin (Colton), Erin (Dempsey), Andrew (Sophie), William, Oliver, Vaughn, and Wyatt; precious great-granddaughter: Kyla Kelly; sisters: Sylvia (Neil), Marion (Pat); brothers: Ralph (Nancy), Ian (Carol), Gerald (Cindy), Gordon (Maxine), Richard (Ida); mother-in-law: Mary Gould; sister-in-law: Heather and his nieces and nephews.
George was predeceased by his parents, Edith and Roland Wheeler, his first wife Catherine, and his daughter Kelly.
George shared so much love for his grandchildren. They were his pride and joy, and he was so very proud of them. He lived a very fulfilling life and made wonderful memories with and for his family and friends. As a family, we were so lucky to have had such a loving, caring, incredible man in our lives. We will be forever grateful for the time we were given with him and for every memory we have in our hearts.
George was someone, who when you met him for the first time, you were never going to forget him and for sure he would never forget you. His quick wit, sense of humour and tormenting ways were legendary. He had a nickname for everyone, whether you liked it or not. He would never turn down a sweet and ate extra when Mary wasn’t looking. He was famous for telling stories from the past whether true or fiction. He spent most of his working career at Churchill Falls Hydro, which was near and dear to his heart, as were the people of the community.
A special thank you to Dr. Al Gherbali and the staff of Western Memorial Regional Hospital for their compassion and care and to the many friends who sat by him on a regular basis throughout his illness.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Donations may be made to the Western Memorial Hospital Foundation towards the cancer unit or to a charity of one’s choice.
