It is with great sadness that the family of the late Benjamin “Scott” Shears announce his passing on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the Bonne Bay Health Centre in Norris Point at the age of 80 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 60 years Olive (nee Hynes), Rocky Harbour; sons: Scott Jr. (Donna) Shears, Corner Brook and Cyril (Geraldine) Shears, Fort McMurray, Alberta; daughter Lisa (Todd) Smith, Norris Point; grandchildren: Vicki-Rae (Jamie) Tucker, Gregory Shears, Jane Shears (Jeff Gardner), Catherine Shears, Brandon and Matthew Smith; great-grandchildren: Scarlett, Autumn, Noah and Aiden; mother Mrs. Violet Shears, Norris Point; brothers: Llewelyn (Ivy) Shears, Rocky Harbour, Walter (Dorcas) Shears, Rocky Harbour, Irving (Dallis) Shears, Rocky Harbour and Gordon Jr. (Shirley) Shears, Scarborough, Ontario; sisters: Ethel (Curtis) Pittman, Rocky Harbour, Elizabeth (Lloyd) Sparkes, Pasadena, Mae (Wheeler) Perry, Prince George, BC and Mona Major, Rocky Harbour; brother-in-law Laudric Endicott, Corner Brook; sisters-in-law: Brenda (Donald) Roberts, Stephenville and Patsy (James) Bard, Springfield, Ohio; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Gordon Shears, sister Linda Endicott, parents in law John and Mary Hynes, brothers-in-law Guy Dyke, George Major and Douglas Hynes, sister-in-law Marie Hunt, nephews David Major and Calvin Hunt. Friends may visit St. Matthew’s Anglican in Rocky Harbour on Thursday from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. from where the funeral service will be held on Friday, July 9 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John Olsson III officiating. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Memorial Fund, St. Matthew’s Anglican Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 10 Clinic Drive, Deer Lake. The family guest book may be signed or a memorial donation may be made through our website www.fillatre.ca.
