Obituary of Doreen Patricia Alexander
Doreen Patricia Alexander
Mattis Point, NL
Jan. 1, 1941 – Oct. 23, 2024
It is with profound sadness that the family of the late Doreen Alexander announce her passing on October 23, 2024 at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville at the age of 83 years.
On January 1, 1941, Doreen was the youngest of 8 children born to Isabell & Andrew Alexander. Doreen was the last remaining Alexander sibling as she had been predeceased by her brothers: Joseph Alexander, Charlie (Mildred) Alexander, Ernest Alexander and sisters: Cecelia (Martin) Blanchard, Rita Campbell, Mary Alexander and Geraldine (Phonse) O’Neil. Her nephew, Terry Alexander, who was like a son to her, also passed away just hours prior to Doreen. Doreen was also predeceased by her great-grandson Koby Benoit, and great-granddaughter Teegan Felix.
Leaving to mourn with fond and special memories are her children: Mary Benoit, Wayne (Carmie) Alexander, Janice Alexander (Fintin Legge) as well as Ronald Benoit and Kenny Bougeious whom she considered her sons; grandchildren: Brenda (Chris) Cormier, Trenda (Peter) Benoit, Wayne (Janine) Felix, Cody (Madison) Alexander; great-grandchildren: Abigail (Blake) Benoit, Maddy Benoit, Zachery Benoit, Parker Cormier, Zander Felix and Brielle Felix; great-great-grandchildren Layla & Nathan Pollard; sister-in-law Cora Alexander.
Throughout her life, she held and served at many functions and had lots of titles: Doreen, mom, gram, big mama and nan. Each one she love and adored. She also had many sides to her and if you were lucky you got to see her very loving and giving spirit.
Also mourning her loss is a great circle of nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws and special friends.
Doreen had a huge family presence and enjoyed getting together for family functions, meals, playing cards, board games or just having a cup of tea and a chat.
Doreen was afforded an opportunity, not provided to many…a long and privileged life where she was rich in love. She was lucky to have watched her family grow and be surrounded by many relatives.
Days without her will be hard but we need to remind ourselves she will be forever in our hearts. She is no longer in pain and suffering and would want to be remembered when she was healthy and able to be more active and present in life. Forever remembered and forever loved!
Special thank you to staff at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital for your compassion, as well as Tina Misseau, Doreen’s personal care attendant.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bay St. George Sick Children’s Foundation.
