Obituary of Eva Joan White

Please share a memory of Eva to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Eva Joan White, 76, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024, in Halifax, NS.

Eva was born in Corner Brook, NL on June 24, 1948, to the late Beulah and Earl Daye where she resided for nearly all her life. She is survived by her husband Don; daughters, Lori Hynes and Krista (Darryl, grandsons Sam & Liam) Cross; stepson Brendan (Bana) White; brothers, Dave (Josephine), Earl [Junior] (Dee), Bob, and their families. Eva is predeceased by sisters, Helen and Shirley, and niece, Judy.

Eva held various positions over the years working to support adults with intellectual and physical challenges, roles she held with great care and pride, and where she developed many close friendships with her colleagues. She was involved in several volunteer groups in Corner Brook, spending earlier days with the Curling Lions Club and more recently with the United Church Women’s Group, a place where she held a deep faith and had a close circle of friends whom she cherished. Eva was always eager to lend a helping hand, to visit and care for a friend in need, or to stop for a chit-chat to brighten someone’s day. She enjoyed gardening, baking, feeding and watching the birds, family dinners, and she loved her ice cream!

In 2007 she met her husband Don on a blueberry-picking outing with their mutual friends, and they never looked back. They enjoyed fifteen wonderful years of marriage, full of memorable times with family and friends, whether it was happily heading on an adventure or navigating health difficulties, stronger together. She treasured their pets over the years, most recently her pug, Jake, who was never far from her side.

In 2015 she and Don decided that visits and video calls were simply not cutting it anymore and they relocated to Halifax, NS. The move reduced the commute for arguably her favourite job, that of beloved ‘Nanny White’ to Sam (13) and Liam (10). For the last nine years, she spent her time building beautiful friendships with nearby neighbours and making memories to treasure with Krista & Darryl and their boys and the close-knit Cross family (Randy & Jean and Karen & little Gabriel). Despite the move to Nova Scotia, she remained strongly tied to Corner Brook, most especially with her daughter, Lori, whom she enjoyed regular visits with and daily calls.

She will be remembered for her warm smile, her kind heart, and her ability to connect with people. Eva was dearly loved, and she will be missed by many.

Special thanks to the ICU and IMCU healthcare teams at the QEII Hospital who worked hard alongside Eva in her unexpected and dreadful battle these last few weeks. Cremation has taken place under the care of J Albert Walker Funeral Home.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Curling Memorial United Church in Curling, with a reception at Club 64 from 12:30-3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson’s Canada.
