Mary Agnes Quilty

St. George’s, NL

Sept. 27, 1949 – Oct. 4, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Agnes Quilty (nee Willcott) on October 4, 2024, at the age of 75 years.

Born in St. Alban’s, Bay d’Espoir, Mary was the beloved daughter of the late John “Jack” and Laura Willcott. She is survived by her devoted husband, Lawrence, and their two daughters, Julia Bachman (Hampton, NB) and Andrea Webster (Halifax, NS).  She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, William and Lorelei Webster, who brought her immense joy.  Mary will be fondly remembered by her siblings:  Michael Willcott (St. Alban’s, NL), Albert Willcott (St. Alban’s, NL), Genevieve (Cyril) Howse (Grand Bank, NL), Bridget Engram (Goose Bay, NL), Ann (James) Cornish (St. Alban’s, NL), Andrew (Andrea) Willcott (Winnipeg, MB), Alice (Fred) Howse (St. Alban’s, NL), and Fabian Willcott (Ottawa, ON).  She is also survived by her brothers-in-law: Bernard (Theresa) Quilty (St. Alban’s, NL) and Leo (Nancy) Quilty (New Waterford, NS), as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by her parents-in-law, Arthur and Julia Quilty, and her sons-in-law, Charles Bachman and Christopher Webster.

At the age of 16, Mary moved to St. George’s, where she met Lawrence, her husband of 53 devoted years. Together, they shared a lifetime of love, creating countless treasured memories.

After relocating to St. George’s in 1966, Mary began working at the Sisters of Mercy Convent, where she remained until its closure. Following that, she took a position at Chubb’s Convenience, where she quickly became a familiar and cherished presence.  She was often seen smiling, laughing, and chatting with her co-workers and customers, always creating an atmosphere of warmth and joy.

In her free time, Mary could often be found playing Candy Crush on her iPad, watching the Game Show Network, and sharing her favorite recipes with friends and family.  She was especially known for incredible cooking, particularly her famous Jiggs dinner.  Mary often travelled to the mainland with her “salt beef pot” and several packs of salt beef in tow, ready to prepare her legendary meal for gatherings of 20 or more people, a true testament to her love of feeding others.

Please join the family in a Celebration of Life on Thursday, October 10th, 1:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, St. George’s. Funeral Mass in St. Alban’s on Saturday, October 12th, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church with Fr.
