My sincere condolences on Alvina's passing. I first met Alvina when I was a child and she would frequently visit the Pennell family across the road. I recall her outreached arms taking me by the hands and swinging me around as she did with other children swinging them off their feet. We loved her and called her "Tiny." She was so beautiful and full of laughter and fun.
In my later years I recall receiving my first cheque from Sister Superior for scrubbing convent floors. My parents encouraged me to go to the Bank of Montreal, just up the road, to open a bank account. As nervous as I was it all became calm when I entered the bank to see Tiny as a teller. She was so sweet and helped me open my first bank account.
I lived of the island for many years and when I returned I was happy to see Tiny again at Sacred Heart Church and at my first Sacred Heart Ladies bingo. I said a big "Hi Tiny" and she whispered "I go by Alvina now" and flashed a big smile.
If you were so lucky to be the receiver of one of her hugs, as I have, you'd know what a special, loving lady she was. No matter if her name was "Tiny" she had a heart as "big" as the moon.
Tiny, if you're listening save some room on your wings to get the rest of us through. My love and prayers to Mike, her children and all family members and friends.
