Obituary of Iris Sharon Wheeler

Iris Sharon Wheeler
January 20, 1942 – September 17, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Iris Sharon Wheeler (nee Montgomery) announce her passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on September 17, 2024.

Iris is survived by her daughters Nina and Sharon (Perry); son Philip (Tracy); grandchildren Andrew, James, Amanda, Dennis, Danny, Josh, Melissa, Gabriel, and Matthew; great-granddaughter Faith; brothers-in-law Dave (Velma) and Hubert (Beverly); and sisters-in-law Gloria, Louise, Greta and Emily.

Iris is pre-deceased by her husband William (Bill); father Allan William Montgomery; mother Mary Catherine Montgomery (nee Ryan); son-in-law Brendan Ryan, mother-in-law Winnifred Wheeler, father-in-law John Wheeler, brothers-in-law Winston and Jack Wheeler, sisters-in-law Alice, Violet, and Shirley. 

Iris was born in Barawa Gaspe, Quebec in 1942 and later moved to Corner Brook where she met the love of her life William (Bill).  They married in 1958 and raised their family, moving to Cormack in 1985. 

While living in Corner Brook Iris and Bill owned and operated a convenience store. Upon moving to Cormack she loved to spend her time outdoors helping Bill to grow crops as well as helping with the yard and garage work. She loved to be involved with whatever task her husband was doing. They always enjoyed a good camping trip, salmon fishing, and hunting. Iris enjoyed sewing and often made clothes for them both. She remained active doing household maintenance with the help of her son Phil, for as long as she could after Bill’s passing. 

Iris was a kind and loving person who will be missed by her family and remembered fondly by all who knew her. 

Public visitation will take place on Thursday, September 19 from 7 to 9 pm at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 10 Clinic Drive, Deer Lake.  A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, September 20 at St. George’s Anglican Church in Cormack with Rev Gosse officiating. An interment will follow at the Anglican Cemetery.
