Walter Blanchard
January 21, 1934 – September 11, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family of the Late Walter Blanchard of Woody Point, NL announce his passing at the age of 90 years old.
Walter was known for his stories about his time spent operating the ferries between Woody Point and Norris Point with his brothers and father. The memories of his years on the waters of Bonne Bay were held very close to his heart. Walter’s love and care for his wife, daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were beyond measure and will live on in those he leaves behind.
Leaving to mourn are his grandchildren Crystal (Barry) Young of Deer Lake, NL and Drew (Britney) Cullihall of Westlock, Alberta; his great-grandchildren Mckenzie, Tommy, Julia, and Aalaya; son-in-law Danny Giggey; his sisters Marjorie and Murial; sisters-in-law Rita and Emily; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, and dearest friends.
Walter was predeceased by his wife Mary (nee Knott) of Norris Point, whom he longed to be with always; as well as his only child Holly; his parents Stewart and Alma Blanchard; brothers Harold (Julia), Gilbert, Fred, and Milton (Georgina).
The family would like to extend a Thank You to all of Walter’s home care workers, the staff at Deer Lake Manor, and the hospital staff for their care and compassion.
A funeral service will take place at St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, 21 Farm Road, Deer Lake on September 13, 2024 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Canon Jeffrey Petten officiating. An Interment will follow later this fall in Woody Point’s Anglican Cemetery.
