Carrie Barry

Heatherton, NL

May 26, 1942 - September 10, 2024

It is with the greatest sorrow we announce that Carrie Barry (Simon), age 82, loving family member and friend, passed away in the afternoon of September 10, 2024 at the Health Science Center in St. Johns, Newfoundland.

Carrie was born on May 26, 1942 to parents Bertina and John Jim Simon and grew up surrounded by her large family in De Grau, NL. She had 12 siblings, Raymond (Leona) Simon, Herman (Marietta) Simon, Cletus (Donna) Simon, Mark Simon, Jimmy Simon, Cindy (Jimmy) Whalen, Linda (Rob) Campbell, Judy (Mickey) MacDonald, and Victoria Simon. As well as Calvin, Kevin and Austin (Betty) Simon who were predeceased.

Carrie was a loving and caring woman, always giving her time and attention to everyone she met.

She travelled to Fischells, NL for work as a serving girl where she met and then married her husband Ronald (Ronnie) Francis Barry in 1960.

They started a family and due to the small communities relocation program they moved not far from Fischells to Heatherton. They had 7 children together: Mark (Jen) Barry, Diane (Chris) Butt, Lillian (Brent) Barry, Gary (Linda) Barry, Darcy (Rod) Barry, John Barry, and Harry (Tina) Barry.

Over the years her family kept growing adding grandchildren: Joanie, Crystal, Corey, Keshia, Garrett, Nathan, Amy Lynn and RJ. Then came great grandchildren: Logan, Asyha, Farrah, Mia, Wyatt, Dustin, Cobi, Kendall, Addison and baby Morley who was sadly born sleeping.

As a mother and grandmother she was generous, loving and kind. She spoiled all the children and grandchildren as much as she possibly could. In her eyes they could never do wrong.

In her free time, Carrie loved to go to bingos, play card games, be around family and friends and go on trips to different places. She was a strong member of the local Heatherton church hall and helped keep it maintained through being active with bingos, darts, and garden parties.

She believed in the importance of family and treated everyone as such. She was a mother figure to many and a great one at that, always making sure everyone was well taken care of.

She will be deeply missed by her family and everyone else who had the pleasure to know her.

Goodbye to a wonderful woman and a beautiful Wife, Mom and Nan.

Thank you to all who have sent their condolences.

All are welcome to the service being held on Monday, September 16, 2024, 2:00 pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery located behind Heatherton Hall, in Heatherton, NL.

Luncheon at the Heatherton Hall to follow.

She was the light in every room and a real angel, only now she has her wings.
