Donald Gerald Rowe

March 3, 1938 – August 2, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Gerald Rowe on Friday, August 2^nd at the age of 86.

Don was a loving husband of 64 years to wife Peggy, proud father to Joanne (Tom) and Gary (Cassandra), and devoted Poppy to grandchildren Maria, Allison, Stephen, Nicholas, and Liam.

Don is survived by sisters Edna, Selma (Mel), and Mary (Nick); sisters-in-law Marg (Doug), Pat (Bud), and Dorothy (Terry); brother-in-law Hedley. 

Don will be remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Frederick & Emily Rowe and in-laws AC (Bud) & Lillian Fisher; brothers George (Stella) and Ralph (Patsy); sister-in-law Ruth (Hedley)

Don was born in Green’s Harbour, Trinity Bay on March 3, 1938, but grew up in Steady Brook. After marrying the love of his life, Don and Peggy settled in Corner Brook to raise their family.    

Don was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the unmatched beauty of the Newfoundland landscape.  Don was an avid curler and golfer.  Many summers were spent on the course with friends at Blomidon Golf & Country Club.  Winters were spent on the ice at the Corner Brook Curling Club.  Don particularly enjoyed the camaraderie, competition, and community that came from competing in bonspiels across the province.  Friendships gained through curling were some of his most cherished. A genuine sports fan, Don never missed watching a Blue Jays game or curling games on TV.    

Don will be remembered for his quick wit, love of laughter and great pride in his family.  

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made in Don’s honour to the Canadian Cancer Society.

We will gather to celebrate Don’s incredible life on Friday, August 9th at Fillatre’s Funeral Home (4 St. Marks Avenue) in Corner Brook. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm, with the service at 2:00pm and the interment at Mt.Patricia to follow.
