Annie Violet White
May 5, 1935 – July 27, 2024
Annie Violet White (née Penney), age 89, of Lane’s Retirement Home, Irishtown-Summerside, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2024, at the Western Memorial Hospital with family at her side.
Born in Summerside, the daughter of Constance (Penney) Dennis, Annie grew up with her grandparents, John and Emma Penney. She shared a close bond with Bessie (Penney) Hann, who was more a sister than an aunt. In 1963, Annie and her husband Gar White moved their family to Toronto where she resided and worked until she retired. She returned to her beloved Newfoundland with her second husband, Fred Gillis, in 1997.
Annie loved her stories, a good game of darts, card games at the Senior’s Club and could always be counted on to spin a good yarn. Her last year of residence at Lane’s Retirement Home was filled with lots of laughs and good times.
Annie will be sadly missed by her three children, daughters Karen Hebert of NB and Rhonda Rowe ON, and son Darren White of ON; eight grandchildren: Jennifer, Jamus, Joey, Justin, Dillon, Jacob, Tyler and Jessica; six great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Kiersten, Savanah, Carter, Atticus and John, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Besides her mother and grandparents, Annie was predeceased by her husbands, Gar White and Fred Gillis; her sister Lottie (Robert) Gauthier, her brothers David (Rose) Dennis and Donald (Ann) Dennis, as well as siblings Hayward and Estella, both during childhood.
The family wishes to thank the staff and residents at Lane’s Retirement Home for all their assistance in making Annie’s time with them memorable. Special thanks to all who went and spent time with Annie during her final days, with particular thanks to Joan and Janet.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 3rd at Fillatre’s Funeral Home 4 St. Mark’s Avenue from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, with Funeral service at St Paul’s Anglican Church in Summerside on Sunday, August 4th, 2024, at 2:00pm with Rev. Critchell officiating. Interment will follow in St Paul’s Anglican Cemetery.
