Gloria Laura Alice (Thomas) Nadeau, aged 85, passed away on Monday, June 17th at the long-term unit of the hospital in Lourdes de Blanc-Sablon. She was born on October 10th, 1938 in Quebec City, Quebec to Marjorie Rogers and Chesley Thomas. She was a proud resident of St. Paul’s River, and a fierce advocate for the growth of the Lower North Shore.
Gloria was a person of many strengths, talents, and strong convictions. Her teaching career began at 19 years of age, where she taught multi-grade levels in small schoolhouses with limited resources. After teaching in the youth sector for many years, she went on to continue teaching in adult education. In addition to her teaching career, Gloria was president of the parents committee making sure that youth could further their high school education off the coast while working towards the implementation of the secondary program on the territory. Gloria later managed the local fish plant, working until retirement. She was involved in the Lower North Shore fisherman’s association, an active member of the church community, served on local municipal councils, and met with politicians to advocate for greater economic development opportunities. Above all, her most important priority was her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Murdoch Nadeau; her children, Elaine (John), Evan, Pierce (Eileen), and Tammy (Clint), devoted grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers (Bob, Brian, and Ross) and, extended family.
Family and friends are invited to the St. Paul’s Church on Thursday, June 20th at 11:00am to honor the life of Gloria.
