Oh my goodness Leanne, I'm so sory to hear about your dad, he was such a great man ... any time we ever seen each other we always stopped and had a big chat, and a hug ❤️

I remember growing up and my mom Peggy Gillam being on the Corner Brook Royals hockey association, Wiggs was a familiar name at our house. Mom and Dad had such high respect and regard for Wiggs. I have often seen him around Corner Brook and he always nodded and spoke. I know he will be greatly missed. Rarely do you meet someone that you immediately felt as though you have known all your life. This was the case when we met both Wiggs & Maureen through Leanne & Ross. Wiggs was a proud Newfoundlander, father, family man & friend. Always there to have a bit of fun, host or help with a meal or tease Leanne while winking every time he got a reaction from her. He was a storyteller & loved talking about the old days. Time spent with family & friends was everything to him.
We are proud to have had the opportunity to know & to have spent time with both Wiggs and Maureen. When our time comes, I am intent on renewing our friendship with Wiggs. Until then, RIP my friend. You should be proud of a life well lived & the legacy you created. Our deepest condolences to Maureen, Leanne, Ross & extended family.

I was truly saddened to learn of Wiggs passing. I have many wonderful memories of him when we played together on the Monarch’s hockey team. Wiggs was a beautiful skater and a great teammate.When Wiggs was working at Sears in St John’s & I moved there from Corner Brook,he made sure my new home had good carpeting from Sears. Maureen and family, Ruth and I were so very saddened to hear of Wigg’s passing. We were great friends all the way through school, played hockey together with the Monarchs and remained friends throughout our adult lives. When his name comes to mind one immediately thinks of simple words like fun, smiles and laughter. To the French family,
I was so surprised today when I opened this page. The coming days will be so hard on all of you. Wiggs was a great friend to the family for so long. 70 years at least, he was always happy and joking while surrounded by children. I think the little ones like saying the name because it was so easy. He was a burly of a man but he was a teddy bear inside, we all knew that. Maureen thank you for taking such good care of him in his time of need. Leanne I know you are working but rushed at the slightest issue with your parents health and as well they spent many months of the year up with you and the family. I hope the tradition continues with your mom in the future. You deserve a gold star for your efforts on your parents behalf. REST IN PEACE now Wiggs. You are loved always.

I am sad of the passing of Wiggs ... my 2nd dad, a blessing to the Read family when we were in need, and someone who will always hold a special place in my heart!!
We couldn't wait for Wiggs and Maureen to visit Leanne, Ross and the boys during Christmas in NS back in the day. The very first thing I would ask for was his homemade cabbage rolls. There was just something about them. It was definitely his love for cooking, and I'm sure a special, secret ingredient that made them so delicious. Then he'd whip up a beautiful prime rib, and of course his signature burgers.
He would always reminisce about Leanne and I staying up late at night laughing and getting on with foolishness. He would pick me up early Saturday mornings to bring me to the ski hill. And he included me in all their family activities. It typically involved going to a cabin somewhere and he always made sure we were having a fantastic time.
He was the best dad to his children, the best grand dad to his grandchildren, and the best husband to beautiful Maureen. Man, did we ever laugh a lot when we were together. That's what I will remember the most, the laughter.
I miss you Wiggs!

Maureen and family-I remember when you first moved to Steady Brook.Everyone loved him, including Mom, Dad & myself.I believe Wiggs worked with Simpson Sears at that time.As I remember, Wiggs was transferred to Oshawa,Ontario.In the summer of 1963, I went to Oshawa to look for work-didn’t know a soul.Walking up the sidewalk and heard a voice say “Hello Billy”.There was Wiggs standing outside Sears. We were so happy to see each other because we didn’t know anyone there.
One of the finest people I ever met and Maureen was a perfect partner for him.

I first met Willis in the summer of 1950. I was sitting on the train waiting to leave for CLB camp in Lewisporte, when his father brought him in and sat him down by me and asked me to look after his little fellow. I was 11 and Willis was 9. Of course, I was quite a bit bigger at that time..... that sure changed!!! I've always found him to be a fine person indeed. Please accept my most sincere condolence on his passing.
