My Dad was the kindest person I have ever known. He was the “strong silent type”, with his thoughtful words and quiet gentle manner. As a little girl, he taught me to love the outdoors, camping, fishing and cross-country skiing. He taught me how to find the big berries! I remember following him around on Saturday afternoons, whether it was tinkering in his workshop, showing me how to “tie a fly”, or taking me through the magical aisles of Canadian Tire.
Education was important to him. I recall him studying after work (I had to be quiet!) to complete his masters degree in Social Work. I always knew he was doing something important. He supported my own educational journey, and encouraged me to work hard. His proud smile meant the world to me, and I will always be grateful for his unwavering support.
I am most grateful for recent memories and our special time together. I especially loved the quiet moments, having breakfast, or just sitting together, with few words spoken, him holding my hand.
My Dad loved to sail. I fondly remember taking a day trip when my son, Eric was little. Dad grinned as he put the boat on a lean, while Eric giggled in excitement. Dad was happy to know I live on Georgian Bay. When I see the graceful sailboats go by, I always think of him.
To my strong and steady father….thank you for all that you have given me. I miss you.
Love always,
Carolyn
