Obituary of Marjorie Leona Rowsell
Rowsell, Marjorie Leona (nee George)
April 17, 1932 – March 9, 2024
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the peaceful passing of Marjorie Rowsell of Corner Brook, NL, on March 9, 2024 at the age of 91 in the presence of her family.
She leaves to mourn, with fond and loving memories of a life well lived, her daughter Karen Williams (Richard) of St. John’s and sons Keith (Susan) of Pasadena and Bob (Janet Jardine) of Burlington, Ontario; her sister Lorraine Butt; her grandsons Michael Rowsell (Hannah Hatcher) and Jonathan Williams (Shauna) and granddaughters Heather Gould (Steven) and Melissa Reid (Eric); and her eleven great-grandchildren, Haley (Isaac), Taylor, Lilly, Carley, Cohen, Mason, Ethan, Elodie, Sophie, Calvin and Job.
Marjorie was predeceased by her loving husband, Allister Rowsell, of 58 years and her sister Helen Goodyear.
From an early age as a daughter to Stephen and Lilian George of Georgetown, Marjorie had a tenacious appetite for learning and adventure. She excelled at everything she did and with her sisters and friends, they had many escapades. The most special thing in Marjorie’s life was her family and they meant the world to her. She strived for perfection in everything she did, including her children’s education and their demeanor. Once the kids were weaned and started their own families, the grand and great-grandkids also became the centre of her life and she gave them her all. She put her literary skills to work writing dear poems for each of them, which has created a great sense of endearment for the entire extended family. She developed other artistic skills in the form of paintings and many of these paintings adorn the walls of the family home and the homes of her extended family. To entertain herself after her dear husband’s passing, she filled her days visiting family and friends, knitting and other crafts, baking and cooking and staying in touch with family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 13, from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9pm at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue in Corner Brook. A memorial service will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home Chapel, 4 St. Marks Avenue on Thursday, March 14 at 2:00pm.
As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marjorie’s name to the charity of your choice.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Marjorie’s neighbours, Gord and Glennis Noseworthy for keeping an eye on her, her niece Marilyn for providing care, and a very special thanks to Steven and Heather Gould for providing home care. The family wishes to thank the kind and compassionate staff of the Palliative Care Unit of the Western Long Term Care Home who helped Marjorie and the rest of us during her final days.
