July 12, 1944 – February 25th, 2024

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that the family of the late Laura May Piercey announce her passing at the Calder Health Care Center with family by her side in Burgeo, NL, on February 25th, 2024 at the age of 79.
Leaving to mourn are her son Dave (Beatrice), daughter Brenda (Corwin), granddaughters Tonia (Benjamin), Victoria (Robbie), Denika (Dylan), grandson Dawson, great grandson Carter, great granddaughters Krista and Kyra; Sisters Eva and Linda; Brothers Hubert (Laura) and Hiram (Beatrice), brother-in-law Jim and sister-in-law Edith as well as a large circle of nieces, and nephews and friends.
Predeceased by her husband Frank Piercey, mother Violet Skinner and father Reid Skinner; sisters Ethel Leamon and Harriet Strickland; brothers Freeman (Vera) Skinner, and Hartley (Bertha) Skinner; brothers-in-law Jack Ricketts, George Skinner, Hubert Strickland and Willie Leamon.
Born in Richard’s Harbour and then resettled in Burgeo where she and her husband raised their two children. Laura was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and godmother. She was a friendly, caring lady who always had a smile and was a good friend to all. She spent the last seven years at the Sou’ West Seniors Complex where she enjoyed the socials, music and company. The “dear children” (the great grandkids) were the highlight of her life. She will be missed by all those who knew her.
The family would like to extend a thank you to all her homecare workers over the years as well as the staff at Calder Health Care for the care she received while she was there. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all the close family and friends that have provided support through this difficult time.
Visitation will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, Burgeo, NL on Tuesday, February 27th, 2024 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, February 28th, 2024 at 2:00 PM with Reverend Elsie Rose officiating.
Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery.
