It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ernest Reid announce his passing at the age of 92 on December 1, 2023, at Western Memorial Hospital.
Leaving to mourn, with fond and loving memories, are his daughters Lisa (Barry Rose) of Mount Pearl, Christine (Cyrus Hamlyn) of Corner Brook, Brenda Reid of Halifax, Debbie (George Gale) of Corner Brook.
He was a proud grandfather to Nicole Rose (St. John’s), Alycia Hamlyn (St. John’s), Nick Hamlyn (Corner Brook) , Jason Small (Calgary) & his children Bailey, Emma & Ethan, Christopher Harding (Heather) and their children , Samantha & Alexander of (Waasis, NB), Jordan Gale, Brenden Gale (Corner Brook) and his children Ava & Landon.
His Godson Terry Andrews, and all his siblings were family to him.
Also leaving to mourn, his brother Stanley Reid (Dorothy), their children Lori Reid, Jason (Amy) and their children Nate & Mia and many nieces and nephews who he cherished , other relatives, and friends.
He was pre-deceased by his wife Mabel, parents Albert and Sarah Maude Reid , brother Clifford and sisters Mary & Vera.
A special thank-you to the emergency room and second floor staff at the Western Memorial Hospital for their care.
Born in Heart’s Delight, he later moved to Corner Brook for work and began a career with Nfld. Tractor & Equipment Co. Ltd. He loved to hunt and fish, cut wood for his winter supply, and enjoyed many happy days at his beloved cabin in Big Bonne Pond. He was known affectionately as ‘Poppy Ernie’ to the many children that attended Christine’s daycare, where he frequently visited to the delight of the children.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment service to take place on Saturday, June 1 to his final resting place in Heart’s Delight, NL where a Celebration of Life will take place.
