Jerry Rex
My friendship started back when the LeDrew family lived on West Street and I lived on Reid Street. We went to school together. Our friendship was cemented when after marriage we were neighbours on Country Road. Our children referred to them as Uncle Gerry and Aunt Nete.
Though we lived apart for 35 years, our friendship did not waiver. We kept in touch with frequent visits and phone calls. On our return to Corner Brook the road to their place in Gander and St. John's was never long, and likewise, they were frequent visitors to our house. Invariably, when he came in the door he would say, "Now byes, get out the cards!" And we'd have a game.
Gerry was a humble man, compassionate and kind. He was generous, especially with his time, his wit and charming smile. Guests in our home, even though they may have only met him once or twice, immediately fell in love with him. On occasion, though, when seeing someone facing an atrocity, it would "make his blood boil".
Words cannot describe the difference he made to his family, friends, workplace and church. Gerry was a remarkable man, who made this world a better place. He helped make me a better man, a better husband, a better father. May he rest in peace. He shall always be in our hearts.
