Robert James Solo

It is with great sadness and fond memories that we announce the passing of Robert J. Solo in the early hours of October 7, 2023. He was in his 65th year.

Rob chose to leave this world on the last day of the salmon fishing season; a career and love that sustained him for all his adult life.  

He was an internationally awarded fly-tyer and was published/featured in many professional magazines throughout his life. He guided many famous people and many more of us common folk on numerous Newfoundland rivers such as Flower’s River in Labrador, Humber River and Southwest River to name but a few.

Rob was pre-deceased by his son Jason, parents Hushan and Anita Solo, brothers Sean and Denny, and sister Sharron (Bill) Kazmel

He is survived by his daughters Jessica Rakhara (Raj), Rebekah, grandson Kaius Jase, brothers Rick (Deanne), Tony (Anne) and Jim (Ingrid), as well as Jill Keough (mother of his children).

Rob especially wished to acknowledge his long-time friend and fishing buddy, ‘Clar’ Wareham. He’ll miss you Clar!  

Rob was strong in his faith and left this world with a full heart, knowing he was going to a better place. Cremation has taken place with no public viewing per Rob’s request. Interment will be at a later date.
