It is with broken hearts, that the family of the late Alma Goudie announce her passing on Saturday, September 23rd, 2023, at the Labrador South Health Centre, Forteau at the age of 86 years. Alma was raised in her beloved home of Capstan Island. She began teaching at the age of 16 and received an Honorable Retirement Award from the Newfoundland Teachers’ Association in 1978 in recognition of her dedicated service to her students. Her memory is cherished by those who were fortunate to have shared in her guidance and wisdom.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her daughter: Bonnie (Roderick); sons: Rick (Donna), Tim (Pansy); grandchildren: Julia (Mark), Rebecca, Rachel (Jake); great-grandchild: Carter; siblings: Marjorie Jones (Urias), Shirley Letto (Steve), Doris Letto (Melvin); sister-in-law: Marjorie Lush (Reid), sister-in-law: Beattie Goudie (Leonard), and a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, especially Martha Jones and Claude Mitchelmore. 

She was predeceased by her parents Hedley and Bessie Fowler, her loving husband Garfield Goudie, and brothers-in-law: Urias Jones and Leonard Goudie.

The family will be receiving friends at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church on Monday, September 25th from 7:00-9:00pm. The funeral service will take place in L’Anse Au Clair, NL at the St. Andrew’s Anglican church on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 11:00 am.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Doctor Milani, residents and their families, nurses, and staff of the Labrador South Health Centre-Long Term Care, Forteau.

Alma’s hands were never idle, as she poured her creativity and love into sewing, knitting, baking, and tending to her flowers. The family is saddened by her peaceful passing but even more grateful and thankful for a life well-lived in faithful and consistent service and love for her family, her friends, and her church.
