It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Verna Olive Kennedy (nee: Penney) announce her passing at Western Memorial Palliative Care Unit at the age of 93 on Monday, July 24^th, 2023. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children: Dave (Cindy) Carter Kennedy, Susan Kennedy, Keith (Grace) Kennedy, Penney (Gary) Millband; daughter-in-law Christine Kennedy; grandchildren: Megan, Amy, Sarah, Nadia, Sasha, Martin, Stephanie, Heidi, Jordan and Colton; great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Henry, Abagail, Sophie, Brooklyn, Gayden, Aidan, Logan, Lexie, Roderick, Laura and Brynlee; sister-in-law Edna Clarke as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Especially her neighbors on Dorchester Avenue.

Verna had a wonderful life with her husband Roddy, especially when he retired. Mom’s nickname was “Wit”, because she loved to laugh and was very witty. She loved to sing “Could I Have This Dance” which was her and Roddy’s special song. She sang with her family surrounding her until the end.

A very special thank you to Reverend John Van Vliet, Dr. O’Driscoll, Dr. Kate Lafferty, who made everything easier just by being there for us. The respectful care given to mom at the Palliative Care Unit made it easier on our family. Mom called them all angels without wings.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 26^th, 2023, from the hours of 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 27^th, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at The First United Church on Park Street with Reverend Jocelyn Cook officiating. Interment to follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Western Memorial Regional Hospital Foundation for the Palliative Care Unit
