Obituary of William Joseph Alyward

1941 - 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of William Joseph Alyward, formerly of Port au Choix, living at Lane's Retirement Home in Port Saunders, announce his passing on Friday, June 16, 2023 at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre at the age of 82 years.  Left to mourn with fond and loving memories, his children: Philomena (Clary), Kevin, Helen (Vince), Marjorie (Sam), Shelia (Ralph), Phyllis (Sammy), Vonnie (Mike), Billy (Kayla);  grandchildren:  Crystal (Stephen), Stephanie (Marc), Peter (Brook), Lacey (Danny), Chelsea, Vicki (Kerry), Jenetta (Andy), Barbara, Stacy, Garland (Amber), April (Anthony), Dinah, Sam, Kerry (April), Brittany (Duncan), Ashley (Justin), Ryan (Carolyn), Lyndy; great grandchildren:  Dean, Alanna, Robin, Cedrick, Emy, Ciarra, Nathan, Danika, Lydia, Callen, Trevor, Bronson, Parker; sisters and brothers: Patrick (Johanna), Anne, Gertrude (Ike), Marie, Alice (Austin); siblings-in-law:  Clayton (Connie), Bob (Doris), Ned (Angie), Sophie, Helen (Gord); special niece:  Katie (Rod); special life long friends: Walt (Edna), special friend:  Naomi; as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, family and friends.  He is predeceased by his loving wife Lydia, daughter Barbara, granddaughter Lydia, parents Michael and Alice Alyward, parents-in-law Priscilla and Henry Wiseman, sisters:  Sadie, Johanna and Isabelle,  sister-in-law Florence (Flossy), brothers-in-law Percy, Bill  Clyde, Felix and Edward. 

A viewing will be held followed by a burial on Wednesday, June 21, at Sandy Cove Interfaith Cemetery, Port Saunders, Nl. As William's wife, Lydia's passing occurred during the 2020 global pandemic, the family were unable to hold a funeral service and wake, therefore, many family , friends and loved ones were unable to pay their last respects.  The family will be taking this time to honour both William and Lydia in a celebration of their lives.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port au Choix.

A special and heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Acute Care Unit at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre, thank you all so much for your care and kindness. 

Visitation will take place at Saint Theresa Roman Catholic Church, Port au Choix, NL. Monday, June 19, 2023 from 10 am -9 pm, Tuesday, June 20, 2023 from 10 am - 9 pm. Funeral Service on Wednesday, June 21 @ 2pm. Interment to follow at Sandy Cove Interfaith Cemetery, Port Saunders.  Father A.
