Obituary of Doreen Dennis (CARD OF THANKS)

Please share a memory of Doreen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

The family of the late Doreen Dennis would like to extend a sincere thank you to all those who helped support and provided comfort in the passing of our dear Mother.

To those who called, sent messages, cards, flowers, lit candles, had a tree planted, and gave Memorial Donations (Our Lady Star of the Sea Church) in Mom’s name, your generosity and thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated. For the wonderful food that was prepared for us, it was delicious, and it was so kind of each of you to think of us.

Thank you to Father Terry for officiating at Mom’s funeral service.  It truly was a “Celebration of her Life”.  We appreciated your support, ministry, and encouragement during Mom’s journey and during our time of grief. To the Special people who participated at Mom’s service, words cannot express how truly grateful and how much it meant to me and my family.

Thank you to staff at Western Long Term Care (Valleyside) and to all the staff who cared for our mom, your compassion and kindness will always be remembered.

For Fillatre’s Funeral Home Staff, thank you for all you did for us. Please extend our appreciation to your entire team for their professionalism and kindness.

Words cannot express the support you have given to myself and family during this time of loss in our lives. Mom (Nan) will always be remembered and cherished in our hearts forever.

SAFELY HOME

Doreen Dennis (Jesso)

Feb 9, 1936 – Feb 9, 2023

Today, our dear mother was called home. She completed her circle of life and her god given earthly mission. Born on February 9, 1936, and passed away February 9, 2023, at the age of 87 at the Western Long Term Care with her daughter Mary by her side.

Family was always important to her. Most of whom knew Doreen, including her brothers and sisters, called her "Nan". A kind hearted spirit who loved to laugh, enjoyed the outdoors and would be found mostly cooking meals for her family. She was a woman who had a deep faith with religion, and we know God welcomed her with open arms on her arrival.

She leaves to mourn with fond memories her son Jim (Kim) Jesso, daughter Mary (Leslie) Gallant. She also leaves behind her most treasured grandchildren Jason (Lindsay) Parsons, Laura (Adam) Jesso, Colton (Courtney) Gallant and great grandchildren Melody, Andrew, Noel and Tanner.

She will forever be remembered by all of her siblings Walter (Yvonne) Jesso, Ren Jesso, Isabel Parsons, Kay Parsons, Ruby (Dave) Curtis, along with brother- and sisters-in-law: Betty Jesso, Sadie Jesso, Ruby Parsons, Frank (Evelyn) Dennis, Mary (Gerald) Curtis, Leslie (Roxie) Dennis, and Edna (Donald) Hynes.

A special friend Myra has been left to mourn who has been by her side for many years. Also in mourning are the Gallant family, and her many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Doreen was predeceased by her husband Ralph of 33 years, parents Ernest and Francis Jesso, mother and father in law Leslie and Effie Dennis, brothers Albert, Mike, Chanie, and baby sister Mary; sister-in-law Theresa Jesso, brothers-in-law Howard Parsons, Ron Parsons, Wilfred Parsons and nephew Richard Dennis.

At mom’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Saturday, February 11th from the hours of 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Her funeral will take place at Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish in Benoit's Cove on Monday, February 13th at 10:30am with Father Jim Robertson officiating. Interment to follow at the church cemetery. As expression of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted, or a memorial donation may be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish.

A special thank you to the "angels" who cared for mom on her journey with dementia in Bungalow 1, and the staff on Valleyside in the Western Long Term Care. Your compassion and support will never be forgotten, and you have become part of our family. She loved you all.

Thank you to Dr. Culliton for caring for mom for all these years, Nurse practitioner Miranda Church, Dr. Butt, and nurse manager Andrea Colbourne for all your continued care. She will forever be remembered.
