James Thomas Pink

June 17, 1948 - January 22, 2023

Burgeo, NL

James Thomas Pink, 74, of Burgeo, NL, passed away on January 22nd, 2023 in Burgeo, (Burgeo Highway). Memorial service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church on Thursday, January 26th, 2023 at 2PM with Reverend Elsie Rose and Deacon Brenda Strickland of St. John the Evangelist officiating.  Visitation will be held at St. John the Evangelist on Wednesday, January 25th at 7PM to 9PM.

James was born in Francois to Samuel and Margaret Pink on June 17th, 1948. He went to high school at Burgeo High School and graduated in 1966. He went on to study Nautical Science and earn a First Mate’s home trade, Second Mate Foreign Going Certificate from the Fisheries College. He worked as a Ship’s Mate for CN and Marine Atlantic as well as a number of positions prior to this on various ships that took him around the world for 30+ years. He loved gardening, fishing, following politics, talking about his time at sea, was a master storyteller, and an avid reader. Being into the cabin at Peter Strides with his wife allowed him to enjoy these activities to the fullest; it was his version of Paradise. Being in his garden early in the morning and fishing into the evening brought him happiness and peace. Affectionately known by many of his family as Big Jim, he always had a joke to tell and loved to see people smile and laugh. Being with his grandchildren always brought a smile to his face. Throughout his life he was a member of various organizations and was very proud to be a member of the Public Library Board. He worked tirelessly to ensure the library remained an important part of communities.

James is survived by his loving wife, Mary of Burgeo, sons Desmond (Rose) Pink and James (Jeannette) Pink, brother David (Linda) Pink, grandsons James, Andrew, Theodore, and Jackson; and a large circle of nephews, nieces, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Margaret Pink, and brother Samuel Pink. Memorial donations may be made to Burgeo Public Library, by emailing or e-transferring to the library treasurer, staceydawnpink@hotmail.com. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of the close family and friends that have provided support through this difficult time. Big Jim will be fondly remembered with many stories.
