Feb. 22, 1934 – May 6, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Eric “Thomas” Matchem announce his passing on May 6, 2022 at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Center, Stephenville Crossing, NL at the age of 88 years.

Leaving to mourn is his wife of 68 years Joyce (Gillam); son Eric (Chrissy); son-in-law Wilson Major; grandchildren:  Terra (Stuart) Fehrman, Bradley (Laurie) Major, Crystal (Desmond) Major, Glen (Ashley) Matchem, Michael (Holly) Matchem; great-grandchildren:  Desirae, Madison, Avery, Addison, Jordyn, Morgan and Frank; brother Frank (Cynthia) Matchem; sister-in-law Dulcie as well as many extended family and great friends.

Tom was pre-deceased by his parents Philip and Jessie (Spencer) Matchem; daughter Marie; brother Sam; nephew Frankie; parents-in-law Joseph and Violet (McKay) Gillam; sister-in-law Claudine Murphy and brother-in-law Kenneth Gillam.

Many thanks to the staff at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Center for all the kindness and care he received from them.

Cremation has taken place at Humber Valley Crematorium, Pasadena, NL.

Burial will take place on Monday, October 7, 2024 @ 11:00 a.m. in the Anglican Cemetery in Jeffrey's with Rev. Norman Cutler officiating.

Please join the family, following the burial, for a celebration of life in the St. Mary Magdalene Church basement  in Jeffrey's.
